tips for girl with anxiety disorder/panic attacks?

I am looking for tips on dealing with my anxiety disorder. I’ve had generalized anxiety disorder since i was 7. I’m now 14 and going into high school next year. I also have panic disorder, phobias, and I am afraid of being trapped into places. I don’t like elevators. I try to be normal. I have a very hard time making friends. I just never feel good about myself. By the way, I am medicated and go to a therapist. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

View the techniques for control of panic attacks, in section 8, at ezy build, below. Begin by holding your breath for 5, or 10 seconds: this will give you the confidence to realise that YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR BREATHING, but not pass out, or die (your autonomic nervous system resumes breathing, if unconscious). Understand panic attacks, and what triggers them, in your life (if it is unresolved anxiety, see section 6). The paper bag method works for most people: try it. If you are fairly suggestible, the following are reliable: http://www.hypnosisdownloads.com/
Your last alternative is psychotherapy, to address its fundamental cause: read section 1, and examine the http://www.1-800-therapist.org/ website, and use the locators, and phone book. I used to suffer from panic attacks, until I questioned what had changed recently in my life, to trigger them? I suggest that you learn, then practise the controlled breathing technique, until competent, then employ it, at the very first sign of a panic attack. http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris See anxiety treatments, at ezy build (below) in section 6. Set yourself a fixed limit for worrying about any particular subject, (say; 10, or 15 minutes) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to even consider that subject again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. Use the technique for reprogramming negative thoughts and internal monologue (self talk), on pages 2, and 2L, to help you in this: some people carry a wide rubber band in their pocket: put it on their wrist; stretch, and release, as a means of reinforcing it, and speeding up the process, re-pocketing it afterwards, but I regard this as being purely optional. Practice one of the relaxation methods on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed. Also, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind). Section 53, and pages 2, 2.q and 2.o at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris also refer: “Even though I sometimes suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.” ~~~ LOW COST/FREE COUNSELLING: Contact your county/local mental health agency, and find out what help they can offer. Also see sections 27, and 9, at ezy build.

Do people with anxiety and panic disorder develop depression as well?

I am suffering from anxiety and panic attacks and now feel that i have also developed depression

Why is that?

Chosen Answer:

Its perfectly possible that anxiety and panic disorders can lead to depression. Depression is a catch all term to define drops in your mood, appetite, sex drive, and general feeling of well being. If you have anxiety and that anxiety impacts on your daily life then that could lead to depression. Panic disorder can lead to fear and even more anxiety which can again impact your life and lead to depression.

Your best bet is to see a psychologist or psychiatrist for a full and proper diagnosis. Although only the psychiatrist can prescribe medication, which your family doctor can also prescribe. So maybe see your family doctor and take it from there.

What do you all think about a child taking prozac for panic disorder?

The child is 11 and has had panic attacks and is fearfull all the time.He has been on prozac for 2 months with much improvement…this is an inherited condition and he has a stable home with no tramitic experiences in his past.I am concerned of the long term with his condition.
Yes…he is under the care of a psycologist and peditrician
It is sometimes hard to know what the right thing to do is,especially when its your child and you are responsable for them.I have him on meds and I guess I just wanted reassureance that the choice I have made is the right one.For the long term…along with coping skills.I have the same dissorder but do not take meds. But I am 37 and he is only a child who is not able to talk himself out of a situation.Thank you for all the input.

Chosen Answer:

There are a lot of different views on children taking meds for anxiety, depression, attention span disorders; some are negative and some are all FOR a child taking meds to control their disorders. I think it’s up to YOU the parent who has to deal with the child and the issues that accompany their disorder. If you are comfortable with your child taking meds and he/she is improving then I don’t see a problem with that so long as you are made well aware of the possible side effects of the meds on your child. And if the medication is improving their quality of life I don’t see why this would be a “bad” thing. It’s solely up to you. We as parents need to decide what is best for our kids. Don’t let people tell you that what you are doing is wrong or bad. It’s all about what will work for your child for them to have a normal life. That’s what’s important. Take care.

does panic disorder have anything to do with tiredness?

does panic disorder and attacks result with extreme tiredness, even if an attack hasnt came recently? does the panic disorder cause tiredness?

Chosen Answer:

The adrenaline released in your system due to panic attacks or high stress levels can make you feel afterwards like you’ve just run a marathon. It’s kind of like when you have too much caffeine and then later you “crash” and feel tired. And being tired or not getting enough sleep can exacerbate panic disorders because you brain is not functioning quite as well as it would be had you gotten enough sleep. It creates further stress on your system.

What happens if you overdose on Klonopin?

It’s my understanding that it’s impossible to die from taking too much, so what WOULD happen, if anything?
I had a friend who took more than 80 and lived through it. Let’s lower that number and say 8; how much would taking eight at once do? Nothing, I would assume.
Is there any possibility of organ damage or neurological problems? Permanent, that is to say.

Chosen Answer:

Just don’t mix it with anything my brother died last year from doing that :(

How long does it take to develop a tolerance for klonopin?

I take half a .5mg a day how long before i have to take the whole pill to feel the same? a guess would be nice i know there is no exact answer?

also i hear some people take up to 500mg a day how can this be possible?

Chosen Answer:

I took two 1 mg pills a day, but I probably took it for a different reason then you. Mine was for a movement disorder. I know I never felt he same while on it. I took for a few years. While I was on it I was so tired that I couldn’t function all I would do is sleep. I would just say that follow what your doctor says and yeah everyone is different. I know my brother takes it and he takes a lot more than I use too and it doesn’t affect him at all.
