Anyone else go through hell getting off Klonopin?
I am switching over to Valium to slowly taper off all benzos, but I will say Klonopin is deceiving and way over prescribed as a drug to take along with SSRI’s. Klonopin is the hardest drug I have ever tried to get off of. I have been on 1.5-3mg for over 10 years. I hear Valium is much easier to taper.

It’s a horrible experience to withdraw from Klonopin. I still have bad memories of my experience. But, Valium is also a ” Benzo ” ( Benzodiazepine, the same class as Klonopin). It is also highly addictive so, I’m surprised that a Valium taper has been recommended. Klonopin is a longer acting drug. But, I would sugggest that you speak to your Doc that has prescribed the Valium and, ask about the effectiveness of easing your withdrawal from Klonopin. I hope that this is helful and Good Luck !! YES. Actually I had so many problems with withdrawl symptoms and then I had a huge life crisis and my doctors decided to wait to try to take me off. I hope to be off one day though…

Taper is the operative word here. And it will take a long long time. Just keep saying to yourself, this too shall pass. And beware of Valium, it depends on how much you take, how easy it is to go off of. My Brain Stem would actually jerk every four seconds when I tried to go off, cold turkey. I was on four milligram tablets a day, People who go blue, or take the ten milligram tablets have an even tougher time. Take them exactly as directed, never double up, no matter how much you feel you need to. Most of these types of drugs are overprescribed, I agree.
